The marriage ceremony of the Orthodox Church is steeped in symbolic ritual, each of the acts revealing a deeper meaning and significance. Anna and Bryan’s Chicago Greek Orthodox Wedding at St. Andrew’s integrated time-honored cultural traditions, such as the crowning of bride and groom, a ceremonial walk around the altar, and offering of the Koufeta. It all ended with an elegant reception for this Art Institute of Chicago Modern Wing Wedding.
The ambiance was crisp, clean, and fresh. One couldn’t help but notice the sculpture – Vater Staat – by German artist Thomas Schutte as a solemn host to the festivities. Vibrant pink and yellow flower displays adorned tastefully decorated square and round tables. I enjoyed the warm celebration among members of the couple’s Greek Cypriot community. Lots of friendly smiles, quality food, and enthusiastic dancing!
